Terrorism: Driver rams car into synagogue, starts shooting
A driver plowed his car into a synagogue in Michigan Thursday and then began shooting, eventually dying after armed security personnel engaged with him. One security guard was injured when he was hit by the vehicle.
Residents around Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, were asked to shelter in place.
According to the synagogue’s website, it is the largest Reform synagogue in the United States.
Emergency personnel are working to clear the building, and the Jewish Federation of Detroit is asking all Jewish organizations to go into “lockout protocol,” CBS News reports. Smoke can be seen rising from the facility via drone shots.
Fox News reports the shooter is believed to be dead.
