'Baywatch' Reboot Series Finds Its Leads
Surf's up for the new Baywatch revival series, set to air as part of Fox’s 2026-2027 broadcast lineup.
Despite never being a critical darling, the original NBC series, which ran from 1989 to 2001, was once the most-watched series in the world, certifying the stardom of lead cast members such as Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff. The beach-based series revolved around the high and low times (or tides) of a group of California lifeguards, as they kept swimmers and sunbathers safe from all kinds of trouble.
Now, a new series is officially in the works, featuring famous castings and returns of certain beloved characters. Among the new leads is Shay Mitchell, best known for her role as Emily Fields in the teen mystery series Pretty Little Liars, as well as Peach Salinger in the Netflix psychological thriller You.
Mitchell will play Trina, a former lawyer who left her practice to follow her dream of becoming a lifeguard, according to an official description obtained by Variety. "Trina is the sharpest mind on Baywatch. Passionate and dedicated, she tends to follow her heart… even if she often uses her considerable intelligence to second guess herself," the description stated.
Stephen Amell, known for his portrayal of Oliver Queen in the DC series Arrow, as well as professional wrestling appearances, will play Hobie Buchannon, an adult version of the character from the original series. Hobie, the son of Mitch Buchannon (played by Hasselhoff), was played by Jeremy Jackson for most of the '90s show's run.
Another character returning is Cody Madison, with actor David Chokachi reprising his role from the original show. Additionally, Jessica Belkin will play Hobie's daughter, Charlie Vale, with Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad. Sports Illustrated model Brooks Nader will play Selene, while TikToker Noah Beck will portray Luke.
