Jeremy Renner Hints That Season 5 of 'Mayor of Kingstown' Might Not Be the End After All
Mayor of Kingstown fans may want to hold off on saying goodbye just yet.
Jeremy Renner posted a video to Instagram this week announcing that production is officially underway on the fifth season of the Paramount+ drama — but it was one offhand comment that immediately caught fans' attention. Describing the upcoming season as "the fifth and perhaps final season," Renner paused, smiled, and added: "We'll see about that."
It was a small moment, but the implication was clear enough to set social media buzzing. Mayor of Kingstown had previously been understood to be ending with its fifth season, making Renner's casual hedge the closest thing to a renewal hint the show has offered.
Fans Can Enter to Win a Role in an Episode of Season 5
The video was posted in connection with a charitable campaign benefiting Renner's renovation foundation, which supports foster youth and at-risk children. Fans can enter for a chance to win a walk-on role in an episode of the show, or simply visit the set to watch filming and spend time with the cast and crew. Renner described it as potentially someone's "big break" — or just an extraordinary behind-the-scenes experience for those who prefer to stay off camera.
"They're amazing," Renner said of his castmates. "Hopefully I'll see you on set."
Renner, who famously survived a near-fatal snowplow accident in January 2023 that left him with more than 30 broken bones, has been open about how much the show and its cast meant to him during his recovery. His return to the role of Mike McLusky for seasons three and four was widely seen as one of the more remarkable comebacks in recent Hollywood memory.
Whether Season 5 is truly the end or simply a pause before more remains to be seen. But "we'll see about that" is not how you talk about a show you're finished with.
