Last chance to enter design ideas competition for Île Notre-Dame grandstands
The Société du parc Jean-Drapeau has launched a design ideas competition to develop permanent bleachers on Île Notre-Dame, aimed at reimagining the park and the Gilles-Villeneuve F1 Circuit.
The bleachers will help enhance the overall appeal of the park and attract more visitors to a major tourist attraction for Quebec.
The competition focuses on the design for permanent grandstands in two areas, located at either end of the Gilles-Villeneuve Circuit. The permanent structures are intended for use during the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix, but are also intended to support new, year-round uses and experiences.
The results of the ideas competition will be used to identify opportunities, clarify needs, expand potential uses, and gather input from stakeholders. The competition is exploratory in nature and does not constitute a commitment to proceed with any proposal. No professional services contracts will be awarded for detailed design or implementation as part of this process.
The competition is open to firms or teams consisting of at least two designers, including a lead designer, who meet the following criteria: they must be accredited members in good standing of a professional order or association in the fields of planning / design, or graduates of a university program in a related field. The lead designer must also have their place of business in Quebec.
The Société du parc Jean-Drapeau encourages multidisciplinary teams, including collaboration across design disciplines and the inclusion of expertise in areas such as engineering, universal accessibility, ecodesign, and scenography.
Four winners will each receive a prize of $25,000 CAD and will be invited to support the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau in presenting the results during a subsequent stakeholder consultation process.
Registration must be completed by March 27, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. EDT.
All competition documents are available in French only, and proposals must be submitted in French.
The deadline for anonymous proposal submissions is April 1, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. EDT.
