"Unbelievable": Gary Neville blown away by £47m Man Utd star ahead of Bournemouth game
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has heaped praise on midfielder Bruno Fernandes ahead of the Premier League game against Bournemouth on Friday night.
The Portugal international has been United’s stand-out performer over the past six years, and he has been a key catalyst behind the club’s sublime turnaround in 2026.
Fernandes has registered seven goals and 16 assists in the top-flight campaign. He recently provided a couple of assists during the 3-1 league win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
The 31-year-old has become the third United player in the Premier League era to register 100 goals and 100 assists, which has led to a debate about whether he makes the club’s all-time XI.
Speaking on The Overlap, Neville was certainly pleased with Fernandes’ goal contributions and said that his statistics are ‘incredible’ and ‘unbelievable’.
He said: “The British stats are incredible to be fair. Just on stats alone. 101 assists and 105 goals. That’s what he’s got. That is unbelievable by the way.”
Fernandes has etched his name in United’s history books
The Portuguese has been a revelation for United since his initial £47 million move from Sporting CP in 2020.
Neville probably spoke about Fernandes prior to the Villa game, given he is currently on 103 assists and 105 goals across all competitions for the Red Devils.
Only two other players, Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs, have achieved 100 goals and 100 assists in the Premier League era, which highlights Fernandes’ greatness.
Of course, the playmaker does not have major trophies to show with only the FA and Carabao Cup titles thus far, but he could end his United career on a high note.
United are determined to keep Fernandes in their ranks. There is a possibility that he could sign a new long-term contract to commit the peak years of his career to the club.
The Red Devils have been on an upward curve under interim manager Michael Carrick with 22 points from nine league matches, and look on course to return to the Champions League.
This would no doubt make United a lucrative destination for elite players. The Red Devils may need to add more quality and depth to the squad to genuinely challenge for the league title.
Fernandes will hope that his commitment to the Red Devils bears fruit. He is regarded as a United legend, but would make the all-time XI by guiding the club to a long-awaited English crown.
