Trump urges Republicans to stay in Washington over Easter for ‘Jesus’ – but why?
Donald Trump has asked Republican senators to remain in Washington DC ‘for Jesus’ over the Easter holidays, but he has a trick up his sleeve.
While speaking at a Make America Safe Again event in Memphis this week, Trump told reporters what he said to Republicans: ‘Don’t worry about Easter—going home.
‘In fact, make this one for Jesus, okay? Make this one for Jesus, that’s what I tell them. It would be a damn good thing.’
But his reasoning for wanting the GOP Politicians to stay in the capital isn’t just for the White House Easter Egg Hunt – but rather, to pass the SAVE America Act and greenlight funding for the Department of Homeland Security.
Trump has repeatedly blamed Democrats for the delay in funding for the DHS, which has seen lengthy airport queues and severe delays in travel as TSA agents have walked out due to not being paid.
But it was Republican Senators who blocked a motion from Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer, which would have sparked funding again for the TSA.
Now, Trump appears to be pleading with his own voter base to remain in the capital and pass his ‘SAVE America’ act over the holidays.
‘I’m tying Homeland Security into voter identification, with picture, and proof of citizenship in order to vote,’ he said.
‘Those two items are the most important things having to do with homeland security, so it should be part of the Homeland Security bill.’
At the end of this week, however, Senators enter a two-week recess, meaning if the bill stalls any longer, travel delays will last for up to a month.
Yesterday, Donald Trump deployed ICE agents to major airports across the United States in a bid to help security agents.
Trump posted a rambling Truth Social, explaining the change: ‘The Radical Left Democrats have hurt so many people with their vicious and uncaring ways. What they have done to the Department of Homeland Security, our fantastic TSA Officers, and, most importantly, the great people of our Country, is an absolute disgrace.’
‘‘If the Democrats do not allow for Just and Proper Security at our Airports, and elsewhere throughout our Country, ICE will do the job far better than ever done before! The Fascist Democrats will never protect America, but the Republicans will.’
JFK and LaGuardia in New York, Newark, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston and Phoenix will all have ICE officers on site to ‘help out’.
Despite widespread worry, Atlanta mayor Andre Dickens reassured his city that ICE will only operate under the TSA, and not in any immigration matters.
ICE officers will be used to help with queue management and crowd control, inside domestic terminals only, he said.
Tom Homan, Trump’s ‘border czar’, told CNN: ‘There are TSA agents covering exits. People who enter through the exits.
‘Certainly, a highly trained ICE law enforcement officer can cover an exit, make sure people don’t go through those exits, and enter an airport through the exits.’
