21 Years Later, Here’s What the Cast of 'The Office' Is Doing Now
It has been 21 years since the first episode of The Office premiered on March 24, 2005. The show introduced viewers to a slew of stories and characters so beloved that it made its cast famous, and fans have continued to debate over parts of the sitcom to this day. But a lot has changed since its premiere. Here's where the series' stars' lives and careers have taken them over the last two decades.
What Happened to the Cast of The Office?

Easily one of the most beloved actors of his generation, Steve Carell has kept extremely busy since he left The Office. For example, he has starred in movies like the Despicable Me series and The Big Short. He also earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the movie Foxcatcher. Carell has also returned to TV for his role in the series Space Force, which reunited him with his former The Office boss, and he is currently starring in the HBO series Rooster, which was co-created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses.

Similar to Steve Carell, John Krasinski has become a Hollywood powerbroker since The Office ended. He has starred in movies like 13 Hours and the hit show Jack Ryan. He also branched out his career by becoming the writer and director behind the A Quiet Place films, both of which were box office hits. The beloved actor was also named People's Sexiest Man Alive in 2024, and he built a family after marrying Emily Blunt and having two daughters with her, Hazel and Violet.

Since 2013, Jenna Fischer has appeared in shows like You, Me, and the Apocalypse and Splitting Up Together. She also had a supporting role in the 2024 film adaptation of the musical version of Mean Girls. Angela Kinsey has been more active as an actor over the same period. She has memorably appeared in shows like Haters Back Off, Your Family or Mine, The Hotwives of Orlando, and The Real O'Neals.
Fischer and Kinsey are listed here together because the two women, who are real-life best friends, have been closely linked since they launched the "Office Ladies Podcast" in 2019. Since then, fans of the beloved sitcom have gotten to listen to them exhibit their unbreakable bond as they have discussed endless topics, including The Office, their friendship, and Fischer's battle against stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer. Fortunately, Fischer later revealed that after undergoing treatment, she'd been declared cancer-free.
Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute

After Rainn Wilson last portrayed Dwight Schrute, he has landed a surprisingly large number of roles, as his IMDb page shows. However, most of the parts he has taken have been small, like in the movie The Meg, or voice parts, so fans may not have realized how busy he has been. Instead of getting attention for his acting career, which is still going strong, Wilson has garnered more attention for his podcast efforts, including as the current host of "Soul Boom." Wilson has also gotten attention for some of his interview comments, like when he told Bill Maher that he was unsatisfied during his years starring in The Office. "When I was in The Office, I spent several years really, mostly unhappy, because it wasn't enough."
Ed Helms as Andy Bernard

When Steve Carell left The Office during season 7, the show briefly put Ed Helms' Andy Bernard in the branch manager's office. At the time, the actor's career was taking off, and he would go on to star in several movies once the show ended. Some examples of that include Vacation, Tag, and Ron's Gone Wrong. He also starred in the acclaimed series Rutherford Falls and launched his own history podcast, which is titled "SNAFU with Ed Helms."
The Rest of The Office's Cast

One of the things that makes The Office special is that the show built a beloved ensemble cast outside of its core stars. After investing in them for years, fans want to know what has happened to those actors, too.
Fortunately, some of them have landed roles in extremely notable projects, including Phyllis Smith, who starred in the Inside Out movies, or Oscar Nunez, who joined the cast of The Paper. Mindy Kaling went on to create, star in, and produce The Mindy Project, Craig Robinson headlined This Is the End, and Leslie David Baker joined the cast of Puppy Dog Pals. One of the most notable post-The Office roles came when Zach Woods starred in Silicon Valley for several seasons.
Outside of acting, many of the show's cast members have done other remarkable things. Brian Baumgartnerlaunched his "An Oral History of The Office" podcast, and B.J. Novakbecame a New York Times bestselling author. Paul Lieberstein returned to his long history of working behind the camera, and Ellie Kemperbecame a mother and wrote a book.
