Eight arrested in police crackdown, 314 traffic offences reported
Police arrested eight people on various charges, including theft, malicious damage and drink driving, during operations carried out overnight across Cyprus.
According to a police statement, officers stopped 595 vehicles and checked a total of 796 drivers and passengers.
Likewise, 23 premises were inspected, which resulted in two reports.
Traffic enforcement operations led to 314 complaints for a range of violations, with speeding accounting for the majority. A total of 188 drivers were ticketed for exceeding the speed limit.
Police also carried out 188 alcohol tests, with 19 drivers found to be over the legal limit. In addition, 45 drug-driving tests were conducted, with 15 drivers testing positive.
Six vehicles were impounded as part of the investigations.
