Mikaela Shiffrin Breaks Down In Tears After Record-Tying 6th Crystal Globe
The FIS World Cup skiing has wrapped up for alpine skiing, and to nearly no one's surprise, Mikaela Shiffrin absolutely dominated. The American skier won nearly every single World Cup slalom race of the season, except for two, where she still ended up on the podium.
On Wednesday, March 25, Shiffrin finished 11th in women's giant slalom in Lillehammer, Norway, which put her at 1,410 points for the season and officially earned her the Crystal Globe. German skier Emma Aicher wasn't far behind Shiffrin in points, but needed to win the race in order to get the Crystal Globe. However, Aicher finished 12th after a rare mistake on the course and ultimately totaled 1,323 points.
Shiffrin was already the most decorated skier of all time, in any discipline, and this most recent Crystal Globe marks her sixth Overall title and 18th Crystal Globe. Annemarie Moser-Pröll is the only other skier to hold six Overall titles. Alongside the Globe, Shiffrin now holds 110 World Cup wins and 168 World Cup podium finishes.

Shiffrin's fiancé, and fellow ski racer, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, and Shiffrin's Mom were all alongside the skier as she realized she'd won.
Shiffrin is undoubtedly one of the best skiers of all time and yet remains incredibly humble. Perhaps to the public, it's not a huge shock that she's won another title after the incredible season she's had, but the clips of her show just how much it still means to Shiffrin.
Notably, she also posted a photo with Aicher, saying it had been an "honor to 'battle' with her" and that she couldn't wait to continue watching her ski and competing against her. Now if that's not the classiest thing we've ever seen...
Congrats on another Crystal Globe, Mikaela!
