Apple TV+ Announces Final Season of One of Its Biggest Shows
The countdown is on for the sixth and final season of For All Mankind.
The alternate history series launched alongside Apple TV+ on November 1, 2019, as part of its official launch. The science fiction endeavor proved to be a worthy investment for the young streaming service, and while Apple doesn't disclose its viewership, it is said to have high viewership retention, even increasing in triple-figure percentages upon its launch, and earning critical acclaim throughout its run from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
For All Mankind, per its official logline, "is a captivating 'what if' take on history from Golden Globe nominee and Emmy Award winner Ronald D. Moore. Told through the lives of astronauts, engineers and their families, For All Mankind imagines a world in which the global space race never ended and the space program remained the cultural centerpiece of America’s hopes and dreams."
The fifth season of the sci-fi series premiered on February 27, just days after Apple confirmed the next season would be its last. Set in the 2010s, the show is approaching the modern day, having spanned over seventy years since the original Space Race the show is based on. Actors Joel Kinnaman, Toby Kebbell, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, and Wrenn Schmidt all reprise their main roles this season.
So far, a date for the sixth and final season has not been announced. However, a sixth season will place For All Mankind as Apple's second-longest-running adult show, after Slow Horses, which has racked up an impressive seven seasons since its launch in 2022.
