The Masters Makes Official Decision on Tiger Woods After Accident
Just four days after being involved in a rollover car accident, Tiger Woods announced he was stepping away to seek treatment.
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," the 15-time major champion said in a statement posted to his social media accounts Tuesday night. "I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.
"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return to a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."

The Masters Issues Statement on Tiger Woods
Woods' decision to step away comes just over a week before the start of the Masters, a tournament he's won five times.
It was unclear if he planned to play in the event, though he was scheduled to attend a Sunday ceremony for the opening of "The Patch," a municipal golf course in Augusta, where he built a new short course and helped redesign the existing 18 holes.
Woods also was expected to attend the annual Champions Dinner at Augusta National on April 7.
Augusta National Golf Club Chairman Fred Ridley issued a statement following Woods' announcement.
“Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament fully support Tiger Woods as he focuses on his well-being,” Ridley wrote. “Although Tiger will not be joining us in person next week, his presence will be felt here in Augusta.”
Tiger Woods Removed From the Masters Field
Woods never committed to playing in the Masters, but was listed among those in the field and wasn't part of the past champions who chose NOT to play.
Following Ridley's statement, Woods was initially still listed in the Masters field as of Tuesday night. However, on April 1, the five-time Masters champion was officially removed from the field.
Woods is expected to continue as chairman of the PGA Tour's Future Competition Committee when he returns from treatment.
