Suicide Bombing Hits Police Site in Pakistan’s Bannu, Killing Five
At least five people were killed and 13 others wounded in a suicide bombing targeting a police facility in Bannu, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to local officials and Pakistani media reports. The blast reportedly occurred when an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the wall of the Domel police station.
Reports said the explosion caused major damage to the police compound and nearby homes, with the force of the blast destroying parts of the building and sending debris across the area. Some of the injured were transferred to nearby hospitals, and local media said the condition of several victims remained serious.
Sources cited by regional media said four police personnel were among the wounded, though initial casualty reports focused mostly on civilians living near the site. The attack appears to have been aimed at law enforcement, continuing a pattern of militant violence against police and security installations in northwestern Pakistan.
No group immediately claimed responsibility, but the attack comes amid a broader rise in militancy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police, military personnel and government installations have faced repeated bombings and ambushes in recent months.
Pakistani authorities have launched rescue and assessment efforts, while security forces reportedly secured the area after the blast. The bombing is likely to intensify concern over the ability of local authorities to contain a growing wave of militant attacks in border regions.
Pakistan has seen a renewed surge in violence, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where attacks on police, army personnel and state facilities have become more frequent. Security officials have repeatedly blamed militant networks operating near or across the Afghanistan border.
Bannu has remained one of the most sensitive districts in the province, with repeated attacks on police vehicles, checkpoints and security compounds.
The latest bombing underlines how fragile the security situation remains in northwestern Pakistan, where both civilians and police continue to pay the heaviest price. Unless security conditions improve, attacks like the one in Bannu are likely to remain a persistent threat.
