Don't Miss Netflix's Shark-Meets-Hurricane Action Movie This Weekend
There's never a shortage of new movies on Netflix, and sometimes, it can be difficult to fit them all into your schedule. The platform drops new films and TV shows almost every day without too much fanfare, but Trash isn't one to miss.
Directed by Tommy Wirkola, Trash follows an ensemble cast of unlucky residents in a coastal town that's hit with a category five hurricane—but the storm doesn't just bring devastating rainfall and gale force winds, but also killer sharks.
Following in the footsteps of classic disaster movies like Sharknado, Thrash offers an updated take on this unique subgenre for a new generation of horror fans.
If the concept sounds familiar, that's because Thrash has been in development for several years now under multiple different names and by two different studios. The project was initially announced by Sony Pictures as Beneath The Storm, before its title was later changed to Shiver.
Production stalled throughout 2024 and 2025, and Sony was ultimately forced to hand the movie over to Netflix, who changed the title once more to Thrash (via THR).
The film stars Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak, Djimon Hounsou, Andrew Lees, Alyla Browne, Stacy Clausen, Elijah Ungvary and Dante Ubaldi.
And there's one more twist in the story—as the trailer reveals, Dynevor's protagonist is pregnant and expecting her baby just as the shark-infested hurricane ravages her home town. The twist adds a whole new element of tension to Wirkola's script, which has fans excited to see how he's going to place his own spin on this popular subgenre.
Wirkola is best known for previously directing films such as Violent Night and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.
"I’m so excited about this movie,” lead actor Dynevor revealed in an interview with Collider. "It’s big. It’s sharks. It’s hurricanes. It’s all of those things, and I’m a nine-months pregnant lady who has to go through a lot in those 24 hours."
Thrash arrives on Netflix around the world on Friday, April 10.
