Trump announces 25% tariff on all goods from Kazakhstan
Donald Trump published the letter on his Truth Social account.
“Starting on August 1, 2025, we will charge Kazakhstan a Tariff of only 25% on any and all Kazakh products sent into the United States, separate from all Sectoral Tariffs,” the letter reads.
“It is a Great Honor for me to send you this letter in that it demonstrates the strength and commitment of our Trading Relationship, and the fact that the United States of America has agreed to continue working with Kazakhstan, despite having a significant Trade Deficit with your great Country,” the letter states.
Trump noted that the U.S. and Kazakhstan have had years to discuss trade relations, but Washington now sees it as vital to address "long-term” trade deficits. According to the U.S. leader, the tariff will not apply to companies manufacturing products directly within the United States.
“If for any reason you decide to raise your Tariffs, then, whatever the number you choose to raise them by, will be added onto the 25% that we charge. Please understand that these Tariffs are necessary to correct the many years of Kazakhstan's Tariff, and Non Tariff, Policies and Trade Barriers, causing these unsustainable Trade Deficits against the United States. This Deficit is a major threat to our Economy and, indeed, our National Security!” the letter concludes.
Similar letters were sent on Monday to more than 10 other countries. Specifically, starting August 1, tariffs of 25 percent will apply to Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Tunisia. Tariffs of 30 percent will be introduced for South Africa and Bosnia and Herzegovina; 35 percent for Serbia and Bangladesh; 32 percent for Indonesia; and 40 percent for Laos and Myanmar.
