Snow leopard and rare lynx caught on camera in Kazakhstan

Tengrinews.kz - Camera traps in Kazakhstan's national parks have captured rare wildlife: a Turkestan lynx, a snow leopard, and Asian badgers—the latter unexpectedly appearing in daylight.
Spotted in Charyn National Park
In Charyn National Park, Asian badgers were recorded. According to the park’s press service, these elusive nocturnal animals typically remain out of sight, but this time, a camera trap in the Sartogay area was triggered during the day.

It is noted that about 62 Asian badgers inhabit Charyn.
Turkestan Lynx
On June 11, a camera trap in Charyn also captured a rare, red-listed species, the Turkestan lynx.
According to the park, only two individuals of this species are known to live in the area. Camera traps play a crucial role in helping scientists track their movements and monitor their population.

“Capturing a Turkestan lynx on camera is a major step toward preserving Kazakhstan’s natural heritage. These data are highly valuable for scientific work aimed at wildlife protection and increasing animal numbers,” the park wrote on Instagram.

Kolsai Lakes
Footage from the Kolsai Lakes National Park also revealed a snow leopard, another rare and protected animal.

“The snow leopard is listed in the Red Book and classified as an endangered species. Its appearance is a sign of a stable ecosystem and the effectiveness of conservation efforts,” stated the national park.
