Kazakh man wanted for fraud arrested in Egypt
Tengrinews.kz - A Kazakh citizen wanted on international charges has been arrested in Egypt and extradited to Shymkent, Kazakhstan, citing Polisia.kz.
The arrest was made at the request of Kazakhstan’s Interpol National Central Bureau. According to police, the man was involved in a large-scale fraud scheme in 2023, where he and accomplices took out car loans in the names of unsuspecting victims. The vehicles were then sold to third parties.
Authorities say 105 people have filed complaints, and the total financial damage exceeds 1.5 billion tenge (over $3 million).
The suspect is facing multiple criminal charges, including:
Large-scale fraud
Organizing and leading a criminal group
Running a financial (investment) pyramid scheme
An investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, the National Bank of Kazakhstan raised concerns over a surge in digital fraud cases targeting older citizens.
