Kazakh singer Alex Lim wins New Wave 2025

According to media reports, second place went to the Russian folk group Obereg, while third place was shared between Jummy from Russia and Yernazar from Kazakhstan.

Alex Lim, 33, was born in Balkhash. Despite not having a formal musical education, he has participated in numerous vocal competitions and projects. He earned a higher education degree in Tver, Russia.
Lim became the first performer from Kazakhstan to ever win the New Wave contest.
The festival kicked off on August 21 at the New Wave Hall in Kazan, bringing together 13 finalists from 6 countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Russia.
Earlier, President Tokayev sent a congratulatory telegram to Kazakh opera singer Aigerim Altynbek, who won the 11th International Opera Competition CLIP 2025 in Italy.
