Kazhydromet warns residents of Astana, Almaty and nine other cities

Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has published a warning on its website for residents of Astana, Almaty and other cities.
The information concerns the air quality forecast for Thursday.

“On 29 January 2026, in the cities of Pavlodar, Karaganda, Zhezkazgan, Balkhash, Temirtau, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semey, Ridder, Aktobe, Almaty, and at night in Astana, adverse meteorological conditions are expected,” the statement says.

Adverse meteorological conditions related to air pollution are a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, temperature inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the surface layer of the atmosphere.
According to forecasters, Astana will see variable cloudiness with no precipitation. Fog is expected at night and in the morning. Southwesterly wind at 1–6 meters per second at night and 5–10 meters per second during the day. Air temperature will be –22…–24 degrees at night and –8…–10 degrees during the day.
In Almaty, variable cloudiness and dry weather are also expected. Fog at night and in the morning. Northeasterly wind 2–7 meters per second. Air temperature will be –6…–8 degrees at night and –0…–2 degrees during the day.
In Pavlodar there will be variable cloudiness, no precipitation, and fog. Southwesterly wind 7–12 meters per second. Air temperature will be –20…–22 degrees at night and –8…–10 degrees during the day.
In Karaganda there will be variable cloudiness, no precipitation, and occasional fog. Southerly, southwesterly wind 3–8 meters per second. Air temperature will be –17…–19 degrees at night and –7…–9 degrees during the day. In Karaganda Region no precipitation is forecast. Fog is possible in the west, north and east of the region. Southerly, southwesterly wind 9–14 meters per second. Air temperature will be –15…–20 degrees at night, in the north –25…–30, in the south –7…–12 degrees; during the day –7…–12, in the north –15, in the south –2 degrees.
In Zhezkazgan there will be variable cloudiness, no precipitation, and occasional fog. Northeasterly wind 4–9 meters per second. Air temperature will be –12…–14 degrees at night and –5…–7 degrees during the day.
In Ust-Kamenogorsk it will be cloudy, without precipitation. Northeasterly wind 1–6 meters per second. Air temperature will be –14…–16 degrees at night and –8…–10 degrees during the day. In East Kazakhstan Region, light snow is possible at night in the north and east. Fog is expected in the north, south and central parts of the region. Northeasterly wind 9–14 meters per second. Air temperature will be –13…–18 degrees at night, in the east –21; during the day –5…–10, in the east –13 degrees.
In Semey it will be cloudy, without precipitation. Easterly wind 2–7 meters per second. Air temperature will be –18…–20 degrees at night and –8…–10 degrees during the day.
