This was stated in a conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev by the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, a high-ranking European source told reporters in Brussels, RIA Novosti reports.

Michel's telephone conversation with Aliyev took place yesterday, but  the press service of the head of the European Council did not  disseminate the details of the conversation.

"President Michel expressed deep disappointment with the current  situation. The situation is very difficult, there is a negative  resonance at the international level, including the EU, where  discussions on various response options took place in the morning  (September 20). The means used by Baku are simply inapplicable ," the  source said.

The head of the European Council also pointed out the importance of  the participation of the international community in ensuring the  security of ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"President Michel also stated the importance of focusing now on the  humanitarian situation. Azerbaijan must ensure the respect and future  of ethnic Armenians in Azerbaijan. The role of the international  community is necessary to ensure security," a European source said.

According to him, the head of the European Council also called on  Aliyev to play a personal role, confirming "full respect for  citizens, as well as international law."

On September 19, Azerbaijan, under the pretext of an anti-terrorist  operation, undertook another act of aggression against Artsakh. As a  result of enemy aggression, There are hundreds of wounded among the  residents of Artsakh, more than 200 people were killed, including  civilians, more than 400 were wounded, and another 7 thousand were  evacuated. There are thousands of missing people. On September 20,  Artsakh fell. Azerbaijan began the forcible subjugation of the NKR.  Thousands of Artsakh civilians are now at the deployment point of the  Russian peacekeeping contingent in Ivanyan. There are reports that  Azerbaijan is not allowing them to be evacuated to Armenia.
