Vikings might have to replace running backs coach Kirby Wilson
The Vikings could soon be in need of a new running backs coach.
Kirby Wilson, who coached the running backs here the past two years, is no longer under contract with the organization as of today. And according to multiple reports, Wilson is expected to join the Browns, who would name him the running game coordinator for new head coach Hue Jackson.
The Vikings, who made Wilson wait until his contract expired to interview with the Browns, were pretty pleased with Wilson during his time here.
In 2014, he helped them get the most out of Matt Asiata and rookie Jerick McKinnon. Last year, he formed a bond with running back Adrian Peterson, who came back from his long hiatus to win his third career rushing title.
Wilson has a pretty remarkable backstory, too, which I wrote about here.
If Wilson does leave to take that promotion with the Browns, head coach Mike Zimmer will have to add his second new assistant of the offseason. The Vikings did not try to retain former offensive line coach Jeff Davidson when his contract expired and instead replaced him with Tony Sparano.
We should know if Wilson is heading to Cleveland by the end of the week.
