|||Kokstad - A Kokstad man is suing Margate Private Hospital, as well as one of its attending physicians, for R20 million after suffering a stroke in their care.
Patrick Jones Mkhize has launched his multi-million-rand claim in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
According to court papers, Mkhize was admitted to the hospital on May 15, 2011 with upper gastro-intestinal haemorrhage. He claims Dr BA Singh inserted a central venous catheter into his arterial blood vessel, and with the administration of medication, Mkhize suffered a stroke.
Mkhize claims that as a result of Singh’s negligence, he has since suffered from poor balance, weakness on his left side, double vision, inability to read or write, difficulty in urinary control and in swallowing food and hypertension.
The Netcare hospital has indicated it will defend the action. In replying papers, Singh denied he was responsible for any treatment which may have been given to Mkhize. Such treatment was administered by a different doctor, he said.
