Bridge crash brings escape bid to a halt
Three suspects were arrested for robbery, after leading police on a high speed chase that ended when their car crashed into a bridge.
|||Cape Town – Three suspects are in police custody, one of them in hospital, following a business robbery and high speed car chase which resulted in a crash in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Western Cape police said.
Police spokesman FC van Wyk said officers were responding to a call of a burglary in Queens Park Avenue, Woodstock when they noticed a vehicle leaving the premises at high speed. Officers gave chase.
“During the chase the suspects’ vehicle collided into a bridge in Goodwood and the three suspects that were in the vehicle were arrested,” Van Wyk said.
“Members searched the vehicle and a crowbar, bolt cutter, petty cash box and a laptop bag were recovered.”
The suspects were treated on scene before being arrested. One of them was transported to hospital where he was in a stable condition.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects broke into one of the businesses in Queens Park Avenue by forcing the front door open to gain entrance into the building.”
The suspects are expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
