The body of a man was found at the Vaal Dam three days after he went missing while fishing, said ER24.
|||Johannesburg - The body of a 43-year-old man was found at the Vaal Dam on Wednesday morning, three days after he went missing while fishing, ER24 reports.
Spokesperson Russel Meiring said the man “apparently fell off his canoe while fishing on the Vaal Dam” on Sunday.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) and Rescue along with the SAPS Waterwing began their search for the man as soon as they were alerted by his family. They witnessed him fall off his canoe and go under water, but he never resurfaced.
Search and rescue teams searched for a few days, finally finding his body early on Wednesday morning, said Meiring.
“Unfortunately, nothing could be done” for the fisherman, said Meiring, adding that “he was declared dead by ER24 paramedics who were on scene”.
Local authorities were investigating the circumstances leading to the fisherman’s death.
