#TBD2016 was officially launched on April 07, and the Protea Fire & Ice Hotel in Cape Town will once again be supporting this worthy cause.
For the past seven years, South Africa's Twitter community has united to donate thousands of blankets for the poor. And judging by the early signs, this winter will be a cold one.
“With winter around the corner, we know that charities struggle to try and meet the demand for blankets for the underprivileged. But in today's digital world, we have the power to make that change,'' says #TBD2016's national co-ordinator and Cape Town host Merentia van der Vent.
Yearly about 4 000 blankets are collected in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria & Durban and also smaller towns and cities. Over the years tweeters in Namibia, Zimbabwe also hosted drives. This year, an Australian woman will be hosting a drive there for the first time.
Expresso presenter Leigh-Anne Williams is a Blanket Ambassador, as well as comedian Mel Jones and actor Siv Ngesi. They will help with driving awareness of the campaign.
Protea's Fire & Ice Hotel will act as the main “drop-off zone'' for Capetonians interested in donating blankets up until the final event on Thursday the 26th of May.
Donors and organisers will come together to count all the blankets, while being entertained by local artists.
Other drop-off locations include:
* The Cape Town Office on Roeland Street
* The Cape Town Garage at the Woodstock Exchange,
* A+ Computer Training Studios at 5 St. George's Mall
* Love Pilates studio in Durbanville
* The Groot Constantia wine farm.
* #Jaxshop101 at Voices Club, 115 De Waterkant [11 April ONLY]
* Top Gym in Grassy Park [28 May ONLY]
#TBD2016 is also being supported by volunteers in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Bloemfontein, George, Knysna, the West Coast and Paarl.
