Soggy, spooky forecast for trick-or-treaters Halloween night in Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Thursday's forecast is not the trick we'd like to see as ghouls and goblins get their treats on Halloween night.
Soaking rains will keep conditions dreadfully wet across western Oregon and southwest Washington on Thursday. The increase in cloud coverage and persistent rain might keep you chilled to the bone as highs struggle to warm greater than the low 50s.
Scattered rain showers will take Portland and much of the Pacific Northwest well into the trick-or-treat hours on Thursday. Making a plan to keep your witches and vampires dry will be wise. The sun will set at 5:58 p.m. as scattered showers make it look slightly darker earlier. The earlier trick-or-treaters head outdoors the better chance of finding a dry moment or two is possible.
A stray thunderstorm or two are possible throughout the day along the Oregon Coast. Heavy rain, lightning, and small hail is all possible Thursday from the Coast Range to the Pacific Ocean.
Mountain snow will also make it difficult to travel over high mountain passes. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect above 4,000' for much of the Cascades Thursday. Several feet of snow is likely above 5,000' through Friday evening.
Oregon and Washington's snowy and wet weather will last through the end of the week. The return of soaking rains could make October's rainfall totals break even after weeks of below-average rainfall amounts.
A few lingering and scattered rain showers are possible as clocks fall back one hour Sunday morning. New sunset hours will occur around 4:53 p.m. Sunday night. Wet weather is expected to remain by the start of next week, including Election Day.
