Limited parking available following Barton Springs Bathhouse renovation

AUSTIN (KXAN) — As the weather warms up, plenty of people are looking forward to swimming at a popular pool this spring.
Yet, things will look a lot different at the historic Barton Springs Pool.
The 75-year-old Barton Springs Bathhouse is being rehabilitated.
The pool is currently closed off for spring cleaning, but it’ll be back open on Saturday.
Other than a few available handicapped spots, the entire northside public parking lot is closed off to cars.
Aquatic Supervisor Aaron Levine is advising people to park in the south lot or use other means of transportation.
“The construction project will change things up a little bit,” he said. “We recommend either parking on the south side or finding alternative modes of transportation such as rideshare and things like that.”
This yearlong Bathhouse renovation project will include access improvements, plumbing updates and restoration to the changing rooms.
According to the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department, there are more than 250 lifeguards ready to work this spring at its 34 public pools.
Levine added that this is the most lifeguards he's ever had this early in the year.
"At $20.80 an hour, these jobs are filling up really pretty quick as we're getting the word out there,” he said. “We're doing things we normally do, as far as going to high schools, job fairs and talking to people."
Temporary restrooms and showers will be brought in next to the Barton Springs Bathhouse, while the pool entrance will remain on the north side.
The City of Austin hopes to have everything finished with this project by the spring of 2025.
