[Men's Soccer] SDCC Draw With Chapman
ORANGE. Calif. – The San Diego Christian College Hawks let one slip away Monday at NCAA D3 Chapman University Panthers. After leading 2-0, the visiting Hawks allowed the Panthers back into the game conceding 2 goals to draw with their host.
The Hawks' offensive pressure was evident throughout the first half. SDCC would outshoot the Panthers 8-3 and earn four corner kicks to CU's one. The SDCC attack would pay off early when James William opened the scoring in the 13th minute. The senior from Quebec City, Canada, would receive a brilliant centering pass from Robert Webb and drive it home past the Chapman keeper.
The Hawks looked to be cruising when captain, Ruben Aguiniga, put the Hawks up by two in the 28th minute. After earning a corner kick, the all-GSAC midfielder headed home a perfect cross from Gael Ruiz to double the SDCC lead.
The Panthers would come roaring back, however. Chapman made the most of two late first half opportunities with less than 8 minutes to go to even the score at 2-2.
The second half was an evenly matched affair, but the defense would rule for both teams. With limited offensive opportunities, both the Hawks and the Panthers would have to settle for a draw.
The Hawks continue to impress on the pitch by regularly outshooting their opponents. Good results are no doubt on the horizon for San Diego Christian as the season progresses.
