The former Chelsea star had fallen down the pecking order at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp.
Local boy Sturridge, 29, spent several years with Villa as a youth player so there would be a romantic tug for him.
There is also foreign interest in a player who netted 67 goals in 160 games for Liverpool.
Yet the chance to be Villa’s main man, and show he can still score in the Prem, has growing appeal.
