D’Angelo Russell probable to play Friday against Timberwolves
Russell has missed the last three games with a right ankle sprain.
HOUSTON — Warriors guard D’Angelo Russell participated in a full practice Thursday and is expected to play Friday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, coach Steve Kerr said.
Russell, who made the trip to Houston but did not play in the Warriors loss to the Rockets Wednesday, has missed the last three games after suffering a sprained right ankle last Friday against the San Antonio Spurs. He has been staying late to get up shots after practice and shootaround this week.
Averaging 19 points and 6.4 assists in five games, Russell will take on more responsibility as the team’s primary ball handler while guard Stephen Curry remains sidelined for at least three months with a broken hand. Two-way player Ky Bowman, who started in Russell’s absence, will return to a reserve role off the bench.
In Minnesota Friday, the Warriors will be without Curry (hand), forward Draymond Green (index finger), guard Klay Thompson (ACL), center Kevon Looney (neuropathy), and guard Jacob Evans (adductor).
