Solomon ‘not welcome’ at Fiorentina but Tottenham hope for 10m fee
Tottenham will earn €10m if Fiorentina make Manor Solomon’s move permanent at the end of the season, but the signature of the Israeli winger has sparked a political protest in Florence.
Fiorentina announced Solomon’s loan move from Tottenham on Friday. It’s a loan deal with an option to buy, and according to Gazzetta, the fee to sign the 26-year-old permanently is €10m.
Solomon joins Fiorentina on loan with option to buy
Solomon spent the first part of the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Villarreal, where he scored one goal and provided one assist in six La Liga appearances.
Fiorentina are already under pressure, sitting bottom of the table with just one Serie A win this season, and their first January signing has only added to the concerns, at least off the pitch.
Several Fiorentina supporters have taken to social media to protest Solomon’s signing, posting critical comments on the club’s official statements on Instagram and Facebook.
Solomon ‘not welcome’ at Fiorentina, says local politician
The fans’ frustration was echoed by local left-wing politician Jacopo Madau, Councillor for Culture in Sesto Fiorentino, a town on the outskirts of Florence.
“You are not welcome in Florence,” wrote Madau.
“The arrival of Israeli footballer Solomon has just been made official. Last or not, anyone who has never hidden their support for Netanyahu’s genocidal policies is not welcome in Florence and cannot represent our city or Fiorentina.”
