The Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia in St. Petersburg opened a criminal case against an unknown man who hit two police officers. This was reported on the website of the city investigation department.
As established by the investigation, on January 23, during an unauthorized rally on Senate Square, an unknown man punched a traffic police officer in the face in response to a call to keep order. Because of this, the law enforcement officer fell on the asphalt. While fleeing from the scene, the attacker hit another policeman who was trying to detain him and disappeared among the protesters.
At the moment, the identity of the suspect is being established. A criminal case was initiated under the article on the use of violence against government officials.
Previously, a video of the incident was published on the Internet. The footage shows how a man approaches a traffic police officer, then hits him hard in the face, after which the patrolman falls.
In the afternoon of January 23, uncoordinated actions were held in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia in support of Alexei Navalny, who was arrested on January 18 for repeated violations of the conditions for observing the probationary period in the Yves Rocher case.
