[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball Falls in Final Game at J&W
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Men's Basketball team finished their season on Monday falling short 86-80 in their road game at USCAA foe Johnson & Wales University (N.C.) in Charlotte.
J&W got out to a 44-33 lead at halftime shooting 57 percent while making nine threes and going 56 percent from behind the arc. SAU only managed to shoot 43 percent and made just three three-pointers but 6 of 7 free throws.
SAU Junior Guard Christian Lathan (JR/Fayetteville, NC) then caught fire in the second half making five of his six total threes to keep the Knights in the game. Lathan would go on to finish with 20 points, 7 rebounds, a steal and a block while shooting 6 of 9 from three (67%) with the Wildcats making just two second half threes and shooting 51 percent.
SAU shot 48 percent in the second half but the rest of the team could not match Lathan missing all of their threes as the Knights fell by 6. The Knights, however, did outrebound the Cats 36-31 while forcing 19 J&W turnovers on 11 steals. SAU shot 46 percent for the game, and 33 percent from three-point range.
Freshman Forward Darius Huff (FR/Newport News, VA) played a terrific all-around game by finishing in double-figure scoring with 14 points, 7 rebounds, a team-high 5 assists and a season-high five steals with a block as he had a strong finish to his freshman campaign. Fellow forward, Junior Jeremias Easterling (JR/La Plata, Argentina) added 13 points as well with 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Sophomore Luis Rossi (SO/Sao Joao, Brazil) was the final member of the Knights to finish in double digit scoring with 10 points along with a team-high 8 rebounds and one assist. Senior guard Ben Twigger (SR/Concord, NC) also added a team-best five assists with five points while Junior guard Carlos Heath (JR/Rochester, NY) had 7 points, 2 assists, and a steal. Junior Andrew Rodriguez (JR/San Juan, Puerto Rico) also had 6 points, 3 assists and 2 steals.
SAU completes their season 4-20 overall while J&W improves to 10-15.
