Barcelona star Lionel Messi is now free to to market his name on sports goods after winning a European Union court battle to register his surname as a trademark.
The court according to Sky Sports ruled on Thursday, April 26, that Lionel Messi is famous enough to have his name on sports good without intimidation.
Spanish bicycle clothing brand Massi were said to have taken the Barcelona legend to court, but their prayers have now been dismissed.
"Mr Messi is, in fact, a well-known public figure who can be seen on television and who is regularly discussed on television or on the radio," the court said.
Lionel Messi last month scored his 600th professional goal and he is the all-time highest scorer for both Barcelona and Argentina.
Already this season, Lionel Messi and his Barcelona teammates have won the Copa del Rey, and they are on the verge of winning the Spanish La Liga title.
