[Baseball] Velazquez, Davis, and Ramos Named to All-KCAC Baseball Lists
WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2018 all-conference baseball awards. Student-athletes were selected for all awards by vote of the KCAC head baseball coaches. Sterling had three Warriors selected to the lists: Miguel Velazquez (JR/Cidra, Puerto Rico), Corey Davis (SR/Visalia, Calif.), and Ulysses Ramos (SR/Union City, Calif.).
Miguel Velazquez was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention at catcher for Sterling. At the end of the season, Velazquez had a batting average of .374 (15th in the KCAC), along with a slugging percentage of .510, finishing the year with 55 hits (eight doubles and four home uns). He also collected 35 RBIs and picked up two stolen bases for the Warriors.
Corey Davis was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention at shortstop for the Warriors, finishing the season with a batting average of .339 and a slugging percentage of .441. Davis ended the year with 63 hits (12th in the KCAC), including nine doubles, two triples, and two homeruns. He also collected 28 RBIs and added 10 stolen bases, starting all 46 games for the Warriors this season. Davis was also selected to the KCAC Baseball Gold Glove Team.
Ulysses Ramos was named an All-KCAC Honorable Mention pitcher for SC. Ramos finished the season with 83 strikeouts which was the best in the KCAC. He also finished with a 4.33 ERA to lead the Warriors on the mound. Ramos also ended the season ranked 38th in the NAIA in Total Hits Allowed.
The Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan University earned the KCAC Regular Season title for the second-straight year, finishing the conference season at 25-5 and 47-6 overall. Head coach Matt Parker was selected by his peers as KCAC Coach of the Year.
Friends University's Augie Isaacson earns the KCAC Player of the Year award following a junior campaign where he hit 0.424 with 86 hits, 51 runs, 50 RBI's, 13 doubles, and 7 homeruns. Tyson Cronin of Oklahoma Wesleyan (1.21 ERA) was named Pitcher of the Year, and McPherson's Josh Lewis was named Freshman of the Year. All awards are voted on by KCAC baseball coaches.
All student-athletes will be honored during the 2018 KCAC Baseball Tournament on Wednesday, May 2 at the Great Bend Sports Complex in Great Bend, Kan., immediately following game two.
The following athletes were selected by conference coaches as All-KCAC First Team, All-KCAC Second Team, KCAC Honorable Mention, and KCAC Baseball Gold Glove Team.
