Man sentenced to 5 years in shooting death of wife
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A former reserve deputy has been sentenced to five years in prison for shooting his wife to death while cleaning her gun at home.
Dwayne Thurman was sentenced Thursday in Spokane County Superior Court for shooting Brenda Thurman in 2016.
The Spokesman-Review reports that a jury convicted Thurman of second-degree manslaughter after prosecutors contended the Lincoln County reserve deputy had gun handling and safety training that should have prevented such an accidental shooting.
Dwayne Thurman, 44, said he started to break down the pistol to clean it when it fired, shooting a bullet into Brenda Thurman's chest, severing her aorta and passing through her heart.
