Collin Sexton tied with Deandre Ayton as Rookie of the Year favorite in rookie survey
The annual NBA rookie survey was released on Tuesday morning, and the Cavs’ top-pick was a fixture in the results.
Cavs rookie Collin Sexton tied with Phoenix’s Deandre Ayton as the predicted NBA Rookie of the Year in the league’s annual rookie survey.
Sexton and Ayton each received 18 percent of the vote from their peers in the survey conducted by NBA.com.
Sexton was the No. 8 overall pick by the Cavaliers this year while Ayton was drafted first overall.
Along with getting a nod in Rookie of the Year odds, Sexton also finished tied for third in which rookie will have the best career, tied for third as best playmaker and tied for fifth as best defender.
Based on the results, Sexton clearly made an impression on his fellow rookies in both summer league and his one year at Alabama.
His speed, particularly in transition, certainly helped him get votes has a playmaker. Considering where the Cavs stand without LeBron James, he will have plenty of opportunity to contribute immediately which should have him in the rookie of the year discussion.
