A SCHOOL bus driver who admitted to raping a 14-year-old girl he met on his route has been been spared jail, leaving the victim’s mother furious.
Shane M. Piche, 26, who drove a bus for the Watertown City School District, New York, pleaded guilty to third-degree rape in February.
A judge sentenced Piche to 10 years probation and ordered him to register as a Level 1 sex offender last week.
The victim’s mother gave this statement to 7 News: “I wish Shane Piche would have received time in jail for the harm he caused to my child.
“He took something from my daughter she will never get back and has caused her to struggle with depression and anxiety.”
Judge James McClusky gave him the sentence as he had no prior arrests and there was only one victim, the Watertown Daily Times reports.
As a Level 1 sex offender, meaning he is considered to be at low risk for committing the crime again, Piche will not appear on the online sex offender databases.
But he is no longer allowed to be alone with anyone under the age of 17.
Authorities report Piche met the teenage girl on the bus route he worked.
