Letter: My strong emotional response to the term ‘trigger-happy cops’
People should take a 'shoot–don’t shoot' class to see what it's like to make a split-second decision.

Re: “Opinion: DA Becton uses wrong standard for police prosecution” (Eastbaytimes.com, Nov. 5):
I take extreme offense with Michael Goldstein’s use of the term “trigger-happy cops.” It’s like taking a broad paint brush to smear a whole, very needed profession.
The last thing any officer wants to do is use his weapon and kill someone. I have been in two shootings and shot once.
The writer needs to take a “shoot–don’t shoot” course to see what it is like to make a split-second decision, and a ride along in a city that has a high incidence of officer-involved shootings.
