In IPL 2019 – Jonny Bairstow and David Warner formed one of the most successful opening duos in the tournament, stitching four century-plus stands for SunRisers Hyderabad. During a recent interview, Bairstow, the Englishman spilled beans about opening with Warner, the Australian cricketer.
Referring to Warner as ‘amazing’. Bairstow said it is fascinating to see how he goes about things.
“It was an amazing experience. I had played against Dave [Warner] but then playing with him, it was fascinating getting an insight into the way he goes about T20 cricket,” Bairstow during the podcast.
“He [Warner] has played that role [of pantomime villain] in international cricket, trying to get under the skin of the opposition but going into an environment I’d never been into before, I couldn’t have asked for much more,” Bairstow said.
“He was very welcoming and very helpful, whether it was on the opposition we were playing against or the pitches we were playing on,” he added.
Meanwhile, there are doubts over the start of the IPL due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A BCCI official said that the board was in constant touch with Cricket South Africa, Cricket Australia among others have all been constantly updated on the scenario and the directives of the government with regards to fighting COVID-19.
“While various options have been discussed like a closed-door tournament, or a curtailed one, it is almost clear that everyone wants foreign players to be a part of the IPL and that is one of the major highlights of the tournament. So, we have been constantly updating the boards of the situation here and the directives that are being issued by the health department as well as the government in the fight against coronavirus,” a BCCI official said while speaking to IANS.
