Earlier this week, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy announced that 550 of the club’s employees will be paid 80 per cent of their salary for the next two months, with the Government’s furlough scheme utilised where possible.
The Telegraph claimed that employees were given just 30 minutes notice prior to the pubic announcement when Levy sent out an email to all of the club’s non-playing staff informing them of the decision.
Levy’s decision has come in from widespread criticism with the former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp blasting the chairman for cutting the wage of non-playing staff while the playing staff continue to receive their mega money (The Sun).
The Daily Mail claim that Spurs went a step further by disabling the email accounts and confiscated phones and laptops to stop staff who have been furloughed from doing any work whilst away from the club, which would have breached the terms of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
