BARGAIN hunters are raving about Asda’s secret scanner app which allows them to find cut-price bargains in store.
One shopper admitted to using her phone to scour the store for discounts, and walked out with a Harry Potter duvet set for £2 and a matching cushion for 70p.
The retailer’s move follows that of B&M as shoppers there have long been scoring incredible discounts using the scanner app.
Coupon queen Holly Smith (aka Holly Vlogs) previously showed exactly how it works – and everyone can use it.
Customers can download the free app on the App Store or Google Play and a barcode scanner can then be found on the bottom of your homepage.
You use this in-store to check if an item’s price is different to what it says on the shelf.
If the product shows up as cheaper on the app, you get it for the reduced price at the checkout.
Products that are typically discounted are seasonal items and old stock that B&M is trying to shift – and for Asda it works much the same.
Last month, a chuffed mum shared her own Asda bargains which she scored using the hand-held scanner
“Loads of stationary reduced to super cheap in Asda, most of it was only 20-25p per item and most expensive thing was the unicorn pencil case for £1.50,” she wrote in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group.
And added: “Pick up a hand scanner though cos the prices were different on the scanner to what the label said so I just scanned loads of stuff and most was coming up at 25p.”
Her haul included a wide selection of notebooks, coloured crayons and pencil cases which were perfect for back to school kids.
But she wasn’t alone with another woman showing off a super cute sequin dog which she bagged for £1 through the app.
Commenters claimed the usual price is a massive £8.
It seems there is no limit to what can be found using the app as other shoppers have even scored expensive toys and sporting equipment for a tiny price too.
Showing off her massive haul, one woman wrote: “All of this in asda. The ticket price was showing normal price. I used a hand scanner and it was all cheep. When people realised what I was doing, they also started to buy. So it’s worth getting the scanner as shelves may not show sale price.”
She scored a bubble machine for 50p and pop up outdoor games for 70p, plus sporting sets for £1 and foam mats for just 60p.
“The scanner is the ‘scan and go’ that you can pick up in store,” she later explained.
According to Asda, “all you have to do is scan and bag the items as you shop, using the handset provided, or the Scan & Go Mobile app and breeze through the dedicated card checkouts.”
It’s a sure way to score yourself a bargain or two, just ask B&M shoppers.
