Minx Casts Jake Johnson & Ophelia Lovibond As First Erotic Magazine Creators
Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond will star in HBO Max's 1970s comedy series Minx as the creators of America's first erotic magazine for women.
Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond have been cast in HBO Max's new period comedy Minx as the creators of the first erotic magazine for women. The streamer has been on a tenacious run of original programming since its U.S. debut just 11 months ago, launching with the popular romantic series Love Life before really striking gold with the Golden Globe-nominated The Flight Attendant. Following the viewership success of Zack Snyder's Justice League, HBO Max now has more clout than ever, which is why it can afford to take risks on edgier, adult-oriented shows.
One of those is Minx, which the streamer recently gave a 10-episode order. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the half-hour series stars Johnson and Lovibond as a sleazy publisher and young feminist who together create the country's first erotic magazine for a female audience. Other cast members include Michael Angarano, who starred in Sky High and scored an Emmy nomination for This Is Us, and Rizzoli & Isles actress Idara Victor. Ellen Rapoport, who penned last year's Netflix film Desperados, created the series, while Bridesmaids director Paul Feig will serve as an executive producer.
Both Johnson and Lovibond have a full slate of upcoming projects, making it all the more impressive that they're able to schedule a 10-episode series. Johnson will star in the highly anticipated sequels to his hugely successful Jurassic World and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, while Lovibond, who played Carina in Guardians of the Galaxy, will appear in prolific British filmmaker Jamie Adams' upcoming comedy starring Fleabag's Sian Clifford. With much of their recent work squarely in the mainstream, Minx is poised to be both Johnson and Lovibond's boldest project yet, giving fans plenty to be excited about as more details about the show come out.
