VIGIL viewers were stunned to spot a beloved character from Netflix’s Sex Education in the drama’s BBC One premiere.
The Suranne Jones-fronted drama kicked off tonight as DCI Amy Silva boarded submarine HMS Vigil to investigate a suspicious death.
Craig Burke (Martin Compston) was supposedly found dead of a heroine overdose in his bunk after clashing with his superiors – but it quickly became apparent there was more to his demise.
While the investigation was undoubtedly gripping, some fans found themselves distracted by the string of familiar faces in the all-star cast.
One actor in particular that commanded attention was Connor Swindells, who played Lieutenant Simon Hadlow.
MORE ON SEX EDUCATION
Swindells was shot to fame in popular Netflix show Sex Education, in which he plays Adam Groff.
Fans fell in love with Adam’s journey as he cames to terms with his sexuality and blossomed from angsty bully to the boyfriend of Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa).
Taking to Twitter, one fan said of his return to TV: “was that the guy from sex education??? #Vigil“
Another echoed: “Is that Adam from Sex ed! OMG wasn’t expecting to see him here #vigil “
While a third chimed in: “Adam Groff from Sex Education looking real suspicious #Vigil“
In Vigil, his surly-faced character alerted suspicion after refusing to answer questions from DCI Silva about the night of Burke’s death.

Silva managed to find blood splatters in one of the corridors and upon grilling Swindells, since he was the last person to see Burke before his death, found herself met with resistance.
He insisted he did not have time for an interview and demanded that she put her questions in writing so he could get back to her later.
Of course this only served to cast him in suspicion – but would it be too obvious for the culprit to be this evasive?
No doubt we’ll have a better idea after tomorrow’s follow-up episode.
Vigil continues Monday at 9pm on BBC One.
