The frontman, 52, bought the secluded cottage for £150,000 two decades ago when it was “just a barn”.
Frontman Jay Kay[/caption]But despite the revamped interior, a surveyor said of the retreat near Gairloch, Wester Ross: “There is evidence of dampness to various locations.
“Concealed timbers may be defective and there is evidence of softness to timbers, particularly around external doors and within the living room.
“There is evidence of mice droppings within the property.”
The Space Cowboy singer previously told how he fell in love with the four-bed hideaway in 2002 after being treated “like an ordinary bloke” in the local pub.
It is around nine miles from the nearest town and sits in about eight acres of land.
But in 2006 a pine marten chewed through the pad while the star was in New York.
He then carried out a major upgrade, installing a new staircase, ceiling joists, roof, windows and doors.
A garage was added about five years ago. In the sales material, the estate agent says: “This property represents an ideal purchase for someone looking for a peaceful private location, surrounded by a stunning ever-changing vista.

The surveyor valued it at £475,000 in its current state, but reckoned it could be worth another £10,000 if repair work is carried out.
