Sun cartoonist Steve Bright scoops coveted Political Cartoon of the Year award
THE Sun’s Steve Bright has landed the Political Cartoon of the Year award.
He scooped the prize for his drawing of the Queen and Prince Philip shortly after her death in September.
It shows the late Duke’s arm around his wife as they look at a bright white light.
Philip questions: “You asked WHO to form a government?” The Queen replies: “I know. I know!”
Steve, 63, has drawn for The Sun as Brighty since 2011.
His work is in Trevor Kavanagh’s weekly column.
He said: “I never expected to win, having spent my 40-year career awardless. I went for that one because it made me smile the most.”
Trevor accepted the “overdue” award for his pal at the London ceremony.
The Political Cartoon of the Year Awards, hosted by headhunter firm Ellwood Atfield, were held in St John’s Smith Square in London on Wednesday with Jacob Rees-Mogg and Angela Rayner presenting the awards.
As Steve was unable to attend the event the award was accepted by his friend and columnist Trevor Kavanagh.
Trevor said: “It is a long overdue award, Steve is a massively accomplished cartoonist who is widely respected across the industry.
“He brings the column alive. Every week he manages to concisely present the topic in a witty way. Plenty of people only end up reading my piece because Steve’s art has caught their eye.
“Ours has been a hugely successful relationship, we’ve worked together for more than 10 years and he continues to amaze me with his incredible talent.”
