The Boston Celtics head coach apologized after allegation surfaced that he had a relationship with a female staff member, which led to him being suspended for the entire 2022-23 season.
Nia and Ime, who began dating in 2009 and got engaged in 2015, have a son Kez, 10. Nia has a son Massai, 21, from a previous relationship.
In an interview with THR, Nia reveals the most “heartbreaking” thing about the scandal.
“I think the most heartbreaking thing about all of this was seeing my son’s face when the Boston Celtics organization decided to make a very private situation public,” she said of the press conference to address the suspension.
She revealed she took her son out of school when the news broke, saying that it was “devastating, and it still is.”
“He still has moments where it’s not easy for him,” she added.
“If you’re in the business of protecting women — I’m sorry, no one from the Celtics organization has even called to see if I’m OK, to see if my children are OK. It’s very disappointing,” Nia said.
She hasn’t discussed the status of her relationship with Ime, nor commented on the conduct.
