Speaking to Lion’s Den, England defender Harry Maguire has named a 5-a-side team from the players he has played alongside, and named Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the side.
Playing for Manchester United and England over the last few years, it’s safe to say Maguire has rubbed shoulders with some incredible players.
The 29-year-old may be having a torrid time of it with his club this season, making just nine appearances for Erik Ten Hag’s side (Transfermarkt) after a number of errors lost him his place in the starting line up at Old Trafford.
Maguire has put all that behind him and is excelling at the World Cup for England, though. The defender has been very impressive in the group stages for England, and will be a key figure for the encounter with Senegal on Sunday.
With 51 caps for the Three Lions since making his debut in 2017 (Transfermarkt), Maguire is now playing in his third major tournament and is one of the most experienced members of Gareth Southgate’s squad.
When asked by a fan to name a dream 5-a-side team made up of players he has shared a pitch with, Maguire selected John Stones, Declan Rice, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Harry Kane to join him.
He said: “I’d go with Stonesy at the back. He’s good at 5-a-side. I’d go with Harry Kane up top, in 5-a-side he’s just the top goalscorer every time. I’d put Cristiano Ronaldo in there, them two in there you’ve won the game already.”
Rounding out the team, Maguire added: “I’d probably have three defenders with them two! I’d put myself in there, and then a midfielder – Declan Rice. He protects everything. We’d just let Ronny and H go and score the goals.”

Interesting choice to forgo the option of having a goalkeeper there, but I’m sure with a team like that you’d not be getting much trouble at the back.
You can just imagine how good Harry Kane would be at 5-a-side, and I bet John Stones would be really solid, too. A good team, fair play.
