Moment brave dog scares off intruder bear from home
Security camera footage shows a dog running up to a bear inside a home and prompting it to flee out the door.
A brave family dog scared off a bear that wandered into a home and was snooping through the kitchen.
The bear stuck its head through a door that was cracked open, then stepped into the home and looked around and walked toward the kitchen, security camera footage from the upstate New York home shows.
Shortly after a sound is heard, a big, light-colored dog with a bandana around its neck runs toward the bear, followed by a woman living in the home. The bear flees out the door and the woman quickly shuts it, then she and her dog run away from the living room area.
Though outside the frame of the camera, the dog is heard barking continuously.
The encounter did not entirely scare off the bear, as it is seen coming back up to the glass door. Throughout the barking, the bear keeps peering into the home and walks around scoping it out several times before walking off casually.
It happened on May 22 at Stephanie Behren’s home in Chatham, according to Storyful. Her hero dog is named Harper.
Harper scared off the bear just a couple days before a black bear was captured on camera sneaking into the garage of a bakery in Avon, Connecticut, and eating 60 cupcakes.
An employee at Taste by Spellbound was loading desserts into a van to take out for delivery when she saw the bear staring her down. She screamed that there was a bear and ran into the kitchen.
Surveillance footage then shows the bear drag out a box of cupcakes and devour them in the car park. Workers try to scare off the bear, but it does not leave until an employee drives up near it and honks.
‘Never did I think I’d say this but we had a bear come into our bakery and charge one of our ladies,’ wrote the bakery owner Miriam Stephens in a social media post on opening late that day.
‘We’re safe but the cupcakes aren’t.’
