I tried the free viral gardening hack for killing weeds – it worked but critics say it’s not a permanent fix
A GARDENING enthusiast has tried a popular hack for tackling weeds free of charge.
The content creator demonstrated the trick for her followers though some were skeptical.
TikTok user Imogen (@its_imog) explained that she was “testing the ‘kettle water kills weeds’ trick.”
In her video, the TikToker poured boiling water over the dandelions growing along her concrete garden path.
The leaves and flowers of the weeds can be seen instantly wilting under the water.
Imogen showed her followers an after shot of the weeds after adding hot water.
“Did it work? Hell yeah,” the content creator wrote in the clip.
While the weeds appeared to die instantly, some critics pointed out a long-term issue.
“It does but they come back,” pointed out one viewer.
Another follower said: “Doesn’t get the root though so will just grow back in a few days.”
“You’ve probably just scorched the leaves but the roots will still be alive. You need to use a systemic weed killer like Roundup to kill the roots,” commented a third person.
One TikTok user offered another alternative for tackling weeds in your garden.
“Salt works too,” the follower suggested.
If your garden is overrun with snails instead of weeds, there is an easy solution.
