I’m a professional hairdresser – stop skipping a key step in your routine, it’s why you’re getting greasy roots
A PROFESSIONAL hairdresser has revealed the key step most of us are missing in our haircare routine – and it could be the reason you’re getting greasy roots after just a couple of days.
Rachel Valentine explained that just like washing your locks, rinsing your brushes is also vital.
She explained that the build-up of product, oil, and dead skin cells on your brushes will be transferring back into your hair, and so will be making it feel dirty quicker.
Luckily, she shared a super simple way to clean them, recommending you use an old toothbrush and some cheap shampoo.
She said: “C’mon, own up. Who doesn’t clean their hairbrushes?
“Not cleaning your hairbrushes will make your hair dirty.
“There is going to be a build-up of oil, product, and dead skin cells on those brushes, so let me show you how to clean them properly.
“Firstly, you need to remove the hairs so I go in with my hand, and then I use a pin tail comb to pick out all the leftover hairs.
“Once you’ve removed all the hairs, you’re going to fill up a sink with hot water.
“Then grab an old toothbrush and pop a bit of shampoo on it. Obviously don’t use your expensive shampoo guys, just use any old shampoo for this.
“And you can start scrubbing away. The toothbrush will allow you to get in between all those bristles.
“And you only have to look at the water to see how dirty those brushes were.
“And there you have it, spotless hairbrushes.”
Below the video, she added: “ “You must clean your hairbrushes!
“Especially if you find your hair is getting oily quickly – it could be your dirty brushes!”

Rachel replied: “Depends how often you’re using them! As soon as you see hairs building up would be a good guide.”
